What is a real-time display?
Real-time displays are electronic screens installed at bus stops and stations that show live updates on bus arrivals and departures. They help passengers know exactly when their bus is due.
Two types of real-time display boards have been installed at bus stops across Lincolnshire: larger digital screens at major bus stations, and smaller e-paper displays positioned at roadside stops throughout the county.
How do real-time displays work?
Most buses in Lincolnshire are fitted with GPS devices that track their location. This information is sent to a central system, which calculates when the bus will arrive at each stop. The arrival times are then shown on screens at bus stops or can be checked on your phone using a QR code. It helps passengers know exactly when their bus is coming.
What does the displayed information mean?
Bus number: The service route number (e.g. 56).
Destination: Where the bus is heading.
Due time: How many minutes until the bus arrives (e.g., “5 min”) or the scheduled time (e.g., “14:32”).
Real-time vs. scheduled: If the time is based on live tracking, it’s real-time. If tracking isn’t available, it shows the scheduled time. See graphic below:
